Rauschner, Johann - portrait of Mr Strycker
Although unsigned, this miniature portrait is attributed to Johann Christoph Rauschner, who was born in Germany but travelled the NE United Stated making wax portraits. He is sometimes described as John Christian Rauschner.
The portrait is very similar in style to other portraits by him, some of which are illustrated in the 1914 book, "Wax Portraits and Silhouettes" by Ethel Stanwood Bolton. The book also contains a description of his technique.
The sitter is identified on the rear. His wife, who had the maiden name of Mott, is depicted in the adjacent portrait. 888b
